Q: Do I have to be Hart House Camera Club member to attend your events?

A: No, you do not have to be a Hart House Camera Club member to attend any of our events. Our events are open to all photographers, members and non-members alike.


Q: What are the benefits of being a Hart House Camera Club member? Why should I join?

A: We have darkroom facilites that are available to all all of our members. This includes two individual darkrooms and a main teaching darkroom that can be used for individual use when no classes are held. The club provides stock solutions of the most common chemical solutions required for black and white film developing and printing, including developer, stop bath, and fixer. We also have a digital darkroom with a Mac, Photoshop and a Nikon film scanner. For more details on our facilities, visit our facilities page. We also provide studio shooting opportunities from time to time.


Q: How do I join your club?

A: You can sign up for a membership at the Hart House HUB. The membership cost is $25/year and is only available to Hart House members. All U of T students are automatically members of Hart House. If you aren’t a Hart House member and still want to join our club, see the next question. After you have bought the membership, you need to get an orientation from one of our curators before you can use the darkrooms. Orientations are available during curator hours (see our contact page). After the orientation you can sign out the keys to the darkrooms from the Hart House HUB and use the darkrooms anytime Hart House is open.


Q: I am not a U of T student/Hart House member. Can I still join your club?

A: Yes, also keep in mind that you do not need to be a Camera Club member to attend our events. However, before you can join our club, you have the become a Hart House member. The Hart House membership fees vary depending on the type of membership (Fitness Centre Membership or Clubs Membership) and your membership category. After you bought your Hart House membership, you can buy a Hart House Camera Club membership at the Hart House HUB for $25/year. Then you need to get an orientation from one of our curators before you can use the darkrooms. Q: Do you lend out cameras?

A: No, unfortunately we do not lend out cameras.


Q: Where are the darkrooms?

A: The darkrooms are located in the basement of Hart House (7 Hart House Circle, Toronto). When you walk in the main entrance (facing Hart House circle) of Hart House, take the right staircase and turn right at the bottom. Walk along the hallway until you find the door to the darkrooms on your left (right next to the elevators and across from Sammy’s/Arbor room).
