Hart House Art Committee Gallery Tours: “Beat Nation” at The Power Plant
On 13 January 2013, Hart House Art Committee hosted a gallery tour that coincided with Sunday Scene at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery. Sunday Scene, in the words of The Power Plant, invites “speakers from the world of art and beyond [to] offer their responses to current exhibitions. Whether focusing on a single work/artist or on multiple exhibitions, guest presenters draw provocative connections between our programs and broader cultural and intellectual debates.”

ArtsINsight Series II: Gallery Installation with Eric Glavin
On 6 November 2012, Toronto-based artist Eric Glavin gave a free practical covering the installation cycle of art work in a gallery, from set up to tear down. The workshop included topics as how to present framed and unframed works, audio and visual installations, three-dimensional pieces, and vinyl application. Glavin explained the use of a variety of installation hardware and discussed the relationship between exhibition installation and curatorial practice to an intimate group of participants.

On 30 October 2012, leading arts critic of the Toronto Star Murray Whyte headed a workshop introducing students and interested parties to the art of writing about art in a critical and accessible way.

Piano Bar: Nuit Blanche 2012 at Hart House
Visitors were able to join artist Dean Baldwin at his Piano Bar by the fireplace in Hart House’s Music Room, this past Nuit Blanche 2012. Baldwin’s legendary barchitecture has been a part of Hart House’s Nuit Blanche since 2008 [from the famous MiNiBAR and the Algonquin Tiki Tiki Hut, to last year’s Grasshopper Hive Bar (2011)]. Baldwin delivered once again this year, serving drinks and food between 7 pm and 1 am.
